RE: AS400 vs Win2k ~Gus Chukikonyoni 31.Dec.03 10:22 PM a Web browser General All ReleasesAll Platforms
We have two partioned Domino servers running on an AS/400 (model 820). It runs reliable and fast enough, though Tivoli Analyzer says the server response is critical. Previously we ran on an underpowered AS/400 (model S20) and though it was reliable as a rock, it was too slow, especially when we upgraded from 4.6 to 5. We got off that box and onto the much faster 820 before we went to version 6 fortunately. Overall, I am quite happy with our iSeries (AS/400) server. The backup feature, called BRMS, is incredibly fast. We backup everything on the entire server to tape in just over an hour each night. We are confident that we would be able to recover quite easily if the unthinkable happened, which would likely be some natural disaster or theft, because massive hardware failure just don't seem to happen on an AS/400.
We are running Domino on a Windows server for Sametime, but as soon as Lotus syncs up the releases, we will likely move that one to the iSeries server as well, and I will be quite happy to say bye bye to Windows.
